My favourite time of the day to shoot is before sunset. Of course the time the sun sets is a changing target, but those two hours before the sun goes down are golden. This time of day is best for a beach shoot. Sunset is more of a nice to have, the priority should be shooting at the time of day that works best for the kids, so I will suggest a location with some nice shady trees for a daytime shoot.

When thinking about what day you’d like to shoot, it’s quite nice to have the day after it available also, just in case the weather doesn’t come to the party, so we’ll have a back up day up our sleeves. Rescheduling is always an option, if someone comes down with a cold, or the weather just isn’t playing ball. I can be very flexible with rescheduling family shoots, particularly if you can do a weekday.

I am happy to suggest shoot locations near your home. All shoots are done on location. If you have a favourite outdoor place then let’s endeavour to shoot there! If that means going for an adventure off the beaten track, be that involving a drive or a hike, then I’m all for it! I know lots of great places in Wellington and the Wairarapa.

Have a think about what you’re all going to wear. Are you going to dress up a bit or keep it casual? Are we going for a walk, should you be wearing sensible, yet stylish shoes? Is it still a bit chilly out? You might need to coordinate cute coats and woolly hats. Best to stick to complementary colours, and steer away from clothes with logos on them.

Your whole home doesn't need to be 'photo shoot ready'. I can work with just a couple of spots near window light. When I arrive I'll figure out where it will be best to shoot and we may do a quick tidy up, declutter of those areas, or rearrange the furniture a little bit. The point of shooting in your home is that everyone is comfortable and relaxed in their own space, it's allowed to look lived in.

I'll make it work! You know them best, so prep them for the shoot, tell them what's going to happen. Time your shoot around naps and when they will be the most willing. Attention spans are short, so we move about lot and intersperse still or sitting down portraits with play and walking around the location. It might feel like chaos and that's it a bit of a disaster, but it wont be, I've had children react a million different ways and we always get beautiful photos.

Your photos are delivered in an online, password protected gallery, in both big/high resolution and small/web res Jpeg files for sharing online. You can share, download the files, & order archival prints from your gallery.

Your photos are all edited by me, and you'll get a mix of colour and black & white.

All packages include all the digital files. In the interests of preserving our time and sanity I do not charge a small 'sitting fee' and then require you to choose which images you want to purchase after the shoot. My prices are the total cost, the shoot and all the high res files.

You can expect your photos to be delivered in a maximum of 4 weeks from the shoot day. 

25% booking fee. Prices are in $NZ and include 15% GST.
